- ➤ Colorado lawmakers passed House Bill 25-1320 today to change school funding by phasing in a weighted formula over seven years, ensuring each district receives at least as much funding as the previous year despite enrollment changes. The plan sets hold-harmless protections and creates the Kids Matter Fund from a small percentage of state income tax to support high-needs students, though some metro districts like Jeffco may face future funding cuts. - ➤ Colorado lawmakers ended their session on Wednesday with final amendments to bills including House Bill 25-1291 for rideshare safety following a traumatic incident reported by Rep. Jenny Willford—Governor Polis will now review the final version. A bid to delay artificial intelligence regulations from Senate Bill 25-205 did not pass. Denver7
- ➤ At the Town Council meeting on May 6, a rezoning proposal moved forward to convert a former hotel and church site at 200 Wolfensberger Road into a mixed-use project with affordable housing + office space and community classrooms. - ➤ Al Leo and Kathleen Noonan, who support unifying Elk Creek Fire with Conifer Fire, won open seats on the board in the May 6 election, replacing term-limited Greg Pixley and Melissa Baker. Noonan received 640 votes and Leo 633—far more than their opponents Michael Bartlett, Thomas Seymour, and Todd Wagner—leaving board member Chuck Newby as the lone voice against unification.
