- ➤ A Douglas County jury convicted Miguel Angel Mercado for two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting at a Castle Rock apartment complex on November 29th, 2022 that left Daniel Vilchis Mercado dead and another man injured—his sentencing is set for July 18. - ➤ On May 17, the Castle Rock Police Department held its annual awards ceremony where 65 officers were honored with over 30 awards for achievements from last year—Sergeant Ryan Hanners received the Purple Heart Medal and dispatcher Cheri Brungardt earned the One-By-One Policing Award, with additional promotions recognized at the event.
