- ➤ County fairs and rodeos in Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Jefferson counties offer live entertainment, animal shows, 4-H projects and carnival rides that celebrate the region’s agricultural and Western heritage. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Adults 60+ and their supporters in Douglas County are invited to a free educational meeting on July 3 at the Douglas County Building in Castle Rock to learn about a new program that trains adults 50+ for childcare roles. Diane Smith from the Douglas County Early Childhood Council will lead the training in partnership with The Early Childhood Service Corp — a program aimed at easing the childcare worker shortage and boosting intergenerational support. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 13, The Rock Church reached a settlement with the Town of Castle Rock that ended its federal lawsuit and lets it continue offering temporary housing onsite using trailers — the agreement also allows the church to run a coffee shop ministry and includes $225,000 to cover attorney fees. - ➤ Douglas County voters rejected an effort to form a home-rule commission and charter as preliminary results show 71.85% (59,838) of ballots voted no when the special election closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. County officials released further updates at 9 p.m. and just before midnight and will certify the vote on July 8. Denver7
