CULTURE NEWS

  • Charles Lamb dug at Lamb Spring in northwestern Douglas County in 1960 to expand a stock pond but found mammoth bones dating to 13,000 years ago, and later Smithsonian archaeologists uncovered remains from two Ice Age layers showing early human hunting activity. LSAP will offer monthly tours starting at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday with the next tour scheduled for July 5+ giving local visitors a chance to learn about the past and see the sturdy cast of a juvenile mammoth skull on display.  Castle Rock News-Press
  • The PACE Center in Parker is staging Rock of Ages—a musical filled with 80s hits and nostalgia that closes the season. The show runs through Sunday, July 20 with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Castle Rock News-Press

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife has launched a statewide initiative for tribes and native communities in state parks by awarding $50,000—part of its Director's Innovation Fund—to build strong community partnerships.  Denver7
  • Today, the America 250 — Colorado 150 Commission announced the start of a one-year countdown to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence and the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood. Established by Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado General Assembly, the commission will lead public programs and community events across the state leading up to 2026.  Castle Rock News-Press
