Four Front Range electric utilities (Colorado Springs Utilities, CORE Electric Cooperative, Platte River Power Authority, and United Power) are teaming up to modernize electricity transmission to cut congestion and boost reliability for more than 1.5 million customers; three of the utilities will join the Southwest Power Pool on April 1 to help control costs and support clean energy goals.

Douglas County firefighters contained a brush fire that started on Tuesday near Highway 85 and Daniels Park close to the Ron King Trail just before 2:30 p.m. The blaze was reportedly sparked by lightning and did not endanger any people or homes—fire crews continued long mop-up work.

Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said a backlog of sentenced inmates waiting for prison beds is straining local jails with 29 inmates (as of July 14) waiting for transfer and about 400 inmates housed daily, which increases costs for taxpayers.

Seventeen sheriffs signed a letter urging Governor Polis to add more beds or use contracts to manage the backlog and work together on a long-term solution.

On July 28, the Colorado High School Activities Association is hosting its fourth sports medicine symposium at the DCSD Legacy Campus in Parker—ten speakers will discuss topics like concussions, nutrition, and injury prevention for young athletes.
