- ➤ On February 8, 2025, Jalin Seabron, a 23 year old expecting his first child, was fatally shot by Deputy Nicholas Moore at Main Event in Highlands Ranch after he tried to protect his family during an attack; community member Portia Terrell-Beavers now demands justice—calling for Moore’s termination, a full internal investigation, a public apology from authorities, and a retraction of false statements. - ➤ Four Front Range electric utilities (Colorado Springs Utilities, CORE Electric Cooperative, Platte River Power Authority, and United Power) are teaming up to modernize electricity transmission to cut congestion and boost reliability for more than 1.5 million customers; three of the utilities will join the Southwest Power Pool on April 1 to help control costs and support clean energy goals. - ➤ Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said a backlog of sentenced inmates waiting for prison beds is straining local jails with 29 inmates (as of July 14) waiting for transfer and about 400 inmates housed daily, which increases costs for taxpayers.
