CULTURE NEWS

  • Yachty Got Back with the Denver Pops Orchestra will perform at the Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park on Saturday, Aug. 30 with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the concert starting at 8 p.m.—tickets are on sale now.  Town of Castle Rock

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 17, Kiowa School District held a town hall meeting to review a $60,680,865 BEST grant that covers 85.9% of the cost to build a new school on nearly 40 acres south of Highway 86, with about $9.9 million to be paid by local taxpayers if the bond is approved in November. Officials and community members discussed design ideas and plans that will allow current school facilities to continue serving for sports and preschool use while the new, modern building is constructed.  Castle Rock News-Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Taxpayers spent over $40 million fighting wildfires in Colorado this year, with nearly three quarters of that cost coming from the South Rim and Turner Gulch Fires (per the Bureau of Land Management). The Interior has budgeted $1.9 billion for fire efforts this year and will request $6.5 billion for next year (to meet rising fire risks).  Denver7
  • Colorado joined a lawsuit against the USDA over a demand for SNAP participant data that lawmakers say may be used for mass deportation—Attorney General Phil Weiser said he will protect Coloradans’ privacy and access to the food assistance program.  Denver7
