  • A trio of organizations will hold a fundraiser on Aug. 28 at Evergreen Lake House to raise $200,000 for Buchanan Park’s planned adventure playground — skatepark and pavilion, with tickets costing $100. The event will feature tapas, auctions, a paddle raise, dueling pianos and a cash bar, and construction of the park features is set to begin in 2026.  Castle Rock News-Press

CRIME NEWS

  • After weeks of investigation, the Castle Rock Police Department and partner agencies arrested a 23-year-old suspect in Denver for a shooting on July 19 at 3:30 a.m. near Castle Rock Parkway and Castlegate Drive North where one person was shot and two others were injured, and investigators will recommend charges—attempted murder, assault, and menacing as the investigation remains active.  Town of Castle Rock
  • A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday in Denver in connection with a July shooting at a Castle Rock apartment complex—officers said a fight in the parking lot led to shots fired that injured three people with non-life-threatening wounds.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Castle Rock Fire and Rescue has implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions today due to hot, dry weather and a lack of rain; the rules ban open burning outside private properties and personal fireworks use while allowing fires in stoves or designated charcoal grills—violators face a $1,000 fine or 180 days in jail, and Town Manager David L. Corliss with Fire and Rescue Chief Norris W. Croom III are monitoring conditions closely.  Town of Castle Rock

HEALTH NEWS

  • Many Coloradans who buy health insurance face higher costs if federal tax credits expire on Dec. 31, with premiums expected to rise 28% statewide—38% on the Western Slope. Lawmakers and advocates urge Congress to extend the credits to help over 300,000 residents avoid unaffordable increases.  Denver7
