Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 28th of August.
Good morning, Castle Rock.
🏘️ Community
Residents in Castle Rock will attend the 2025 Glow Dance Party on Sept 27 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Amphitheater at Philip S.
Miller Park — the all-ages event supports the Town’s Therapeutic Recreation program by raising funds for scholarships and adaptive equipment.
🌲 Environment
A new report from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control shows that firefighters are facing burnout due to resource shortages—forcing crews to work longer hours as wildfires grow to historic levels.
Officials stated that departments will need over 2,000 additional firefighters and $25 million in equipment while relying on out-of-state teams amid ongoing funding challenges.
🏛️ Government
Gov. Jared Polis announced a state hiring freeze on August 6 to help close a $1.2 billion gap and save $3 million to $7 million by delaying non-critical hires.
State workers worry that the move—set to run until year-end—will force extra workloads—especially with a 20% vacancy rate—if the action continues.
